December 2, 2001 Tournament Quarterfinal Game Notes

Winners: Romulan, Cardassian, Klingon

Buy: Non-Aligned

I will fight to the DEATH -- should my opponent show up.

News of the night was that hard won victory of the Cardassian Empire.  Ferenginar never showed up and thus forfeit the game.

Take notes kids, this is what NOT to do.

The first part of the game between the Klingons and Skidmore was off to an incredible start as both sides were neck and neck for points.  The Lieutenant's luck was in short supply as he uncovered a Sheliak at his outpost mission followed by a well-placed dead-end.  Despite staggering point and personnel losses, Skidmore scratched out a 26 to 25 lead and managed to hold on until close to the end.  Apparently, he felt so confident with his 1 point lead he voluntarily beamed 4 ships' worth of people into space.  From there on after, it was simply one disaster after another.  Downloads were not performed as they could have been, counters were played incorrectly, and referees soon realized that Kim K'chiq had played her outpost at a mission that already had an outpost on it.  This will be the first and only time a tournament game will be replayed in the semifinals because of player discontinuity.  Final score in this game: 26 to 42 Klingon.  Time was called.

Ladies and Gentlemen: This is the one to watch!

Many of the guild members have said that the referee game was the one game to watch because it would determine how the tournament would go.  These two players have remained evenly matched throughout.  However, the cards seemed to be on the side of the Romulan Empire as the Federation suffered staggering losses and constant stoppages.  The game was delayed a bit longer when the Romulan Empire became forced to do a planet mission after suffering a 30 point loss from the Higher the fewer.  With time almost being called, the final score was Romulan 111 to 25 Federation.

Semi-Final match-ups

Klingon + Non-Aligned - this may be the only time a last place player will have a shot at the tournament!

Romulan + Cardassian - can Cardassia triumph over Romulus?
