December 9, 2001 Tournament Semi-final Game Notes
Winners: Cardassian, Klingon
A Smoother Rematch - only with the same result.
Kim Plowed over Skidmore (now demoted to crewman until he can score another win) 140 to 30.
This one may take some explanation ... or not.
The one match everyone was anticipating was the match between Gul Tonec and Praetor Terrill. Most people were anticipating that the Romulans would devastate the Cardassians as has been the status quo. However, the one thing nobody expected was the humiliating defeat of the Romulan Empire at the hands of their one-time allies, the Cardassians (see also stupid). Despite a bad shuffle, 2 mis-played cards (draw deck instead of Q's tent), and an early 74 to 30 deficit, (see also REALLY stupid) the Romulan Empire was about 5 minutes away from winning the game when Gul Tonec laid down a Supernova on a ship full of Romulans. Now, for most players this would be a problem; but for the Romulans, this was not a problem. Far from it. After all, the Romulan Empire has the best record of any race with an undefeated record the length of your arm. The Romulans are so well-trained they are above making stupid mistakes -- see also yeah right, my a**, and I have some land in Florida I'd like to sell you. In an absolutely, unbelievably, incredibly STUPID mistake (with a capital 's' and about 20 'o' s) the infallible Praetor Terrill had a Tox Utaht and a Q2 in hand to nullify the supernova - but didn't play it! (see also smegging, frelling, fragging stupid). Don't expect the Romulans to be beaten for a very long time -- especially 104 - 31.
