September 16, 2001 Game Notes

Winners: Romulan, Cardassian, Ferengi

It was a sad day for the Federation.

With a Non-aligned fleet, the Romulan Empire JUST managed to squeeze by his Federation opponent 129/92.  The Federation the field in points and strength most of the game.  The Non-aligned fleet had to play catch-up while avoiding a fight with the more powerful Federation Fleet.  The Federation proved more than a match for the dilemmas seeded beneath the missions and quickly scored 92 points.  The non-aligned fleet, with most of its ships still at the outpost, had been stopped many times. and had just scraped together 99 points with 5 missions.  One dilemma on one mission was all that stood in the way of victory and the ships were on the other end of the space line. If a dilemma hadn't stopped the Federation for a turn, the Federation would have surely won.

Another Federation upset might not have been so had Lt. Skidmore stocked more than 1 ship in his fleet!  In an un-Ferengi gesture, Damon Darc chose not to attack his opponent openly initially to give his opponent a chance to attempt some missions.  Eventually, the good Damon decided to end his opponent's misery and won.

Despite the Romulan Empire's Non-Aligned victory, his Non-Aligned cousin L'terr did not fare as well against Cardassia.  Gul Tonec, though severely limited by the lack of diplomacy in his deck severely impeded his opponent with a creative use of events and interrupts.  Despite massive losses, Gul Tonec never completely eliminated his opposition and scrambled to score points before his opponent could recover.  He just succeeded in his scoring of 100 points to L'terr's 50.
