Message 6-10-2002:
The Game That Was too Close to Call
Before I Go into the notes for the week, I would like to comment on the game I played against the Chancellor. I, quite frankly, am surprised that I won. The game was called, as it should be, on the Chancellor's turn and there were 2 ships on the table full of Klingons ready to do missions. The game was set to end on his turn, so that meant whatever was scored on that turn - even 5 points - would have given him the win. It wasn't really a test of skill or cards that determined the outcome because the score would have reflected that. We were so evenly matched that it came down to dumb luck in the end. I believe that if we were to play again, the outcome would be entirely different.
You can Successfully Challenge a Ruling
I have heard a lot of complaints about some of the rules that are in place but no real challenges. To challenge a ruling takes more than just saying: "That's not fair" or "I think we should play it this way." You will need to prove your case to the Chancellor before a rule change will be able to be made. There are right ways and wrong ways to challenge a ruling.
Right | Wrong |
You can prove your case by citing examples from the current rulebook. |
Citing what happened in the movie/show. |
Use other current rulings to back up your case. | Using other guild members pedantic pleas to back yours up. |
Use logic and common sense | Using irrational behavior |
